Pending

Pending is the most common SRD status — and the most misunderstood. It does NOT mean you have been rejected.

Pending means SASSA is still verifying your application against government databases. Until the check is complete, your application cannot be approved or declined. Most applicants — roughly 80% in any given month — see Pending at some point.

What does SASSA check when your status is Pending?

SASSA runs your details against five official databases before releasing payment:

  1. Department of Home Affairs — confirms your SA ID is valid and belongs to you
  2. SARS — confirms your income is below the means test threshold
  3. UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) — confirms you are not receiving UIF benefits
  4. Existing SASSA grants database — confirms you do not already receive another SASSA grant
  5. Banking details — confirms your payment account is active and in your name

Any mismatch in any one check keeps your status at Pending until it resolves.

How long does Pending last?

  • New applications: 1–3 monthly processing cycles
  • Renewals: Usually resolves within the same month
  • SASSA processes applications in monthly batches — status updates happen between the 10th and 20th of each month

⚠️ Do NOT reapply while your status is Pending. Reapplying resets the process and extends your wait.

For a full guide — including what to do if you have been Pending for 3+ months — see the SASSA Pending status guide.

Approved

Approved means your SRD R370 grant has been approved for the current month. SASSA will pay your grant on your assigned Pay Day via your registered payment method.

When you see Approved:

  • Log in at srd.sassa.gov.za to find your Pay Day date
  • Confirm your payment method (bank account, Post Office, or retail pay point) is correct
  • Collect anytime after your Pay Day — your money stays until you collect it

Approved but no payment received?

If your status shows Approved but no payment has arrived more than 3 working days after your Pay Day:

  1. Confirm your Pay Day date has actually passed
  2. Check your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za
  3. Confirm your bank account is active and not frozen

For a full troubleshooting guide, see the approved but no payment guide.

Declined / Not Approved

Declined means your SRD application was unsuccessful for the current month. SASSA found something during verification that disqualifies you from receiving the grant this month.

Common reasons for Declined:

  • Income detected by SARS above the means test threshold
  • A UIF benefit payment found in your name
  • An existing SASSA grant registered to your ID number
  • ID details could not be verified with Home Affairs

Declined and Not Approved mean the same thing. The wording varies depending on how you check — portal, WhatsApp, or USSD — but the outcome is identical.

You can appeal a Declined result

You have 90 days from the date of decline to submit a formal appeal. Appeals are submitted at srd.sassa.gov.za under the Appeals section, or in person at a SASSA office.

For step-by-step help, see the SASSA Declined status guide and the how to appeal guide.

Identity Verification Failed

Identity Verification Failed means the ID number on your application does not match what the Department of Home Affairs has on record.

Common causes:

  • Spelling difference between your application and your ID (e.g. “Maria” vs “Mariah”)
  • Incorrect ID number entered when you applied
  • An error in Home Affairs’ own database

This cannot be fixed online. You must visit your nearest SASSA office with your original ID document — green barcoded ID book or smart ID card. A SASSA agent will compare it to your application record and correct the mismatch.

For a full resolution guide, see the identity verification failed guide.

Bank Details Pending

Bank Details Pending means SASSA is verifying your bank account or payment method. This appears when:

  • You recently changed your banking details
  • Your bank submitted new account information
  • A new Postbank Black Card was linked to your account

No action is needed in most cases. This status usually resolves within 2–5 working days. If it persists for more than 10 days, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm your details are correctly recorded.

For more, see the bank details pending guide.

Existing SASSA Grant Detected

This status means SASSA’s database found another social grant already registered to your ID number. You cannot receive the SRD R370 grant if you already receive any other SASSA grant — Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, or others.

If you do receive another grant: this is correct. You do not qualify for SRD at the same time.

If you do NOT receive another grant: this may be a database error. Call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA office with proof of identity to dispute the record.

Full details at the existing grant detected guide.

Cancelled

Cancelled means your SRD application has been removed from the system. This can happen when:

  • You previously requested cancellation
  • SASSA cancelled inactive or duplicate applications during a system review
  • Your application was cancelled in error

If you still qualify for the SRD R370 grant and did not request cancellation yourself, you may need to reapply at srd.sassa.gov.za.

See the cancelled status guide for the full process.

First Batch / Second Batch

SASSA releases SRD payments across two windows each month — referred to as the First Batch and Second Batch. This is not a problem with your application. It simply means your payment has been grouped into one of two processing runs.

April 2026 SRD payment batches:

  • First batch: 23–24 April 2026
  • Second batch: 29–30 April 2026

Your personal Pay Day falls within one of these windows. Log in at srd.sassa.gov.za to see your assigned date under the “Pay Day” field.

For a full explanation, see the payment batch meaning guide.
