SASSA grants are only available to SA citizens, permanent residents, and officially recognised refugees.
For unemployed South Africans aged 18–59. Income must be below R624/month. Apply at srd.sassa.gov.za.
How to apply →For South Africans aged 60 and over. Income must be below R9,600/month (single) or R19,200 (married). Currently R2,400/month.
Old Age Grant details →For people aged 18–59 with a medically confirmed permanent disability. Income below R9,600/month (single). Currently R2,400/month.
Disability Grant details →For primary caregivers of children under 18. Income below R4,800/month (single caregiver) or R9,600 (married). Currently R580/child/month.
Child Support details →The means test is the income and asset check SASSA uses to determine whether you qualify financially for a social grant. Each grant has its own threshold. If your income exceeds the limit, your application will be declined even if you meet all other criteria.
For the SRD R370 grant, SASSA cross-checks your income against SARS tax records, UIF records, and bank transaction data. For other grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support), you will be asked to provide proof of income and assets at your local SASSA office.
