SASSA SRD Reapplication 2026 — How to Reapply for the R370 Grant

Updated 2026-04-11

If your SASSA SRD grant was cancelled, lapsed, or you need to apply again for a new period, you can reapply online at srd.sassa.gov.za. Reapplication is a full new assessment — it is different from the annual reconfirmation.

When Do You Need to Reapply for SASSA SRD?

SituationAction Needed
Your grant was cancelledReapplication
Application lapsed (did not reconfirm on time)Reapplication
New SRD cycle opened and your previous period endedReapplication
You voluntarily cancelled and now need the grant againReapplication
Your appeal was unsuccessful and you want to try againReapplication (new month)
Annual reconfirmation is due (still receiving grant)Reconfirmation only — not reapplication

Not sure if you need to reapply or reconfirm? Check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za. If your status shows “Lapsed” or “Cancelled,” you need to reapply. If it shows “Active” or “Pending Reconfirmation,” you only need to reconfirm.

What You Need to Reapply

Before starting, have these ready:

  • 13-digit South African ID number
  • Cellphone number registered in your name (for OTP)
  • Bank account in your name — account number, bank name, account type
  • Income declaration — you must earn below R624/month from all sources

How to Reapply for SASSA SRD Online — Step by Step

Step 1: Go to srd.sassa.gov.za on your phone or computer.

Step 2: Select “Apply” or “Reapply” on the homepage. The portal shows this option when a cycle is open.

Step 3: Enter your 13-digit ID number and your cellphone number.

Step 4: Enter the OTP sent to your registered number.

Step 5: Complete the online application form:

  • Confirm personal details
  • Declare your monthly income (must be below R624)
  • Enter your banking details

Step 6: Submit. You will receive a new SRD reference number — save it immediately.

Step 7: Check your application status after 7–14 days. SASSA will complete the assessment within this period.

Reapplication vs Reconfirmation — What’s the Difference?

These are two different processes. Using the wrong one wastes time.

ReapplicationReconfirmation
WhenAfter cancellation or lapseAnnually while still receiving grant
ProcessFull new applicationShort confirmation of unchanged details
Reference numberNew number issuedExisting number stays the same
AssessmentFull reassessment from scratchChecks you still qualify

How Long Does SASSA SRD Reapplication Take?

  • 7–14 days for assessment after submission
  • If approved: payment begins from the next payment cycle
  • No backdated payments for reapplication — only successful appeals recover past months

If you believe you were incorrectly declined for a specific past month, submit an appeal for that month first, before reapplying for future months.

After Reapplying — What to Expect

  1. Your old reference number from the previous application is retired — it will no longer show updated status.
  2. Your new reference number is issued with your reapplication — use this to check status.
  3. If previously declined due to income or other grant detection: the same checks run again. Your situation must have genuinely changed to be approved.
  4. If approved, payment will be deposited to your registered bank account on the next SRD payment date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reapply if my SASSA SRD was cancelled?

Yes. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and select “Apply.” A cancelled application does not permanently block you. See our cancelled status guide for the reasons your application may have been cancelled before reapplying.

Will I get back-payment if I reapply?

No. Reapplication covers future months only. If you were incorrectly declined for past months, you need to appeal those specific months separately — only a successful appeal can recover past month payments.

How many times can I reapply for SASSA SRD?

There is no official limit on reapplication attempts. Each reapplication is assessed on your current circumstances. However, if you are repeatedly declined for the same reason (e.g., income too high), a new application will have the same outcome unless your situation has changed.

What if my reapplication is declined?

Check the decline reason at srd.sassa.gov.za. Common reasons include SARS-recorded income, UIF status, existing grant, or NSFAS. For an incorrect decline, submit an appeal within 90 days of that decision. For a correct decline, address the underlying reason before reapplying.
