SASSA SRD Status Cancelled — What It Means & How to Reapply 2026

Updated April 2026

A SASSA SRD status of Cancelled means your grant application has been stopped. Unlike Declined — which is a monthly result — Cancelled means your application itself has been removed from the system. No payment will be made and you will need to reapply if you still qualify.

Cancelled is rare. Most SRD applicants never see this status. If you do, it is important to understand why so you know whether to reapply or investigate a possible error.

What Does SASSA SRD Cancelled Mean?

Cancelled means your SRD application has been permanently removed from the system for the current application period. It is different from other statuses:

StatusWhat It Means
PendingApplication in progress — still being verified
Declined / Not ApprovedMonthly rejection — can appeal or try again next month
CancelledApplication removed — must reapply to re-enter the system

A Cancelled status does not automatically resolve itself. You must take action — either by reapplying or by investigating the cause if you believe it is an error.

Why Was My SASSA SRD Status Cancelled?

You Requested Cancellation Yourself

If you previously visited srd.sassa.gov.za or a SASSA office and requested to cancel your SRD application, this is the result. This is intentional and correct.

Automatic Cancellation After Missed Reconfirmation

SASSA requires all SRD applicants to reconfirm their details periodically. If you missed the reconfirmation window (usually a 30-day period), SASSA may automatically cancel inactive applications. See the SRD reconfirmation guide for more information.

Cancelled Due to Ineligibility Finding

If SASSA discovers during a routine audit that you no longer meet the SRD requirements — for example, income above the threshold, a new UIF benefit, or an age change — it may cancel your application entirely rather than declining it monthly.

Duplicate Application Detected

If you submitted two applications using the same ID number, SASSA will cancel one of them, keeping only the most recent or the one with verified details.

Can I Still Get Payment If My Status Is Cancelled?

No. A Cancelled application does not receive payment for the current or any future month. Payment completely stops once an application is cancelled.

If you believe the cancellation is an error, contact SASSA before reapplying. Reapplying creates a new application with a new start date — any potential back-payment from before the cancellation may be lost.

How to Reapply After Cancellation

If your application was cancelled and you still qualify for the SRD R370 grant, you can submit a new application:

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Select “Apply for SRD R370 Grant”
  3. Enter your 13-digit ID number and registered phone number
  4. Complete the application form with your current details
  5. Submit and note your new reference number

⚠️ A new application starts a fresh verification process. Allow 1–3 monthly processing cycles for your new application to be approved. Your previous application history does not carry over.

For a full step-by-step guide, see the SRD reapplication guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cancelled the same as Declined on SASSA?

No. Declined is a monthly rejection — your application stays in the system and is re-evaluated every month. Cancelled means your application has been removed entirely. A Declined applicant does not need to reapply; a Cancelled applicant does.

Will I lose all my back-payments if my application is cancelled?

Back-payment is only available when a formal appeal is upheld after a Declined result. If your application was cancelled, there is generally no mechanism for back-payment from the period before cancellation — which is why it is important to contact SASSA immediately if you believe the cancellation is an error.

How do I cancel my own SASSA SRD if I no longer need it?

You can cancel your own SRD application at srd.sassa.gov.za under the “Cancel Application” section, or by visiting your nearest SASSA office. For the full process, see the cancel SRD application guide.

Can I appeal a Cancelled status?

If you believe your application was cancelled in error, contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit a SASSA office as soon as possible. Unlike Declined results, Cancelled status does not follow the standard 90-day appeal process — it requires a direct investigation and correction request.
