Frequently Asked Questions

Which SASSA grant pays the most?

The War Veterans Grant pays the most at R2,420/month, but is effectively obsolete as very few qualifying veterans remain alive. Among actively issued grants, the Older Persons, Disability, and Care Dependency Grants pay the most at R2,400/month each.

Can I receive more than one SASSA grant?

Generally no. Most SASSA grants are mutually exclusive. Specifically: you cannot receive the SRD R370 if you receive any other SASSA grant. A caregiver can receive the Child Support Grant while an elderly person in the same household receives the Older Persons Grant — they are different beneficiaries.

Did SASSA grants increase in 2026?

Yes. Most grants increased in April 2026: Older Persons and Disability +R80 (to R2,400), Child Support +R20 (to R580). The SRD R370 grant amount did not increase in 2026.

What is the income limit for SASSA grants?

It varies by grant. The SRD R370 threshold is R624/month. The Child Support Grant threshold is R4,800/month for a single caregiver. The Older Persons Grant threshold is R96,840/year for a single person. See the means test guide for full details.
