SASSA pays the SRD R370 grant in batches — not everyone is paid on the same day. The first batch is paid earlier in the month, and the second batch follows a few days later. Both batches pay the same amount. Being in the second batch does not mean anything is wrong with your application.
What Is a SASSA Payment Batch?
SASSA processes over 13 million SRD grant applications every month. Paying everyone on a single day would overwhelm the banking system — so SASSA splits payments into groups called batches, each processed on a different day.
When your status shows Approved, your specific Pay Day is the date your batch is scheduled to be paid. Your Pay Day is visible when you log in at srd.sassa.gov.za.
First Batch vs Second Batch — What Is the Difference?
The difference is simply timing. First batch applicants receive payment a few days earlier than second batch applicants. The grant amount is identical for both groups.
| Batch | Typical Payment Window (April 2026) | Amount |
|---|
| First Batch | 23–24 April 2026 | R370 |
| Second Batch | 29–30 April 2026 | R370 |

Which batch you are assigned to depends on SASSA’s internal processing schedule. You cannot choose your batch and being in the second batch is not a disadvantage.
How Do I Know Which Batch I Am In?
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
- Log in with your 13-digit ID number and registered phone number
- Enter the OTP sent to your phone
- Under your Approved status, look for your Pay Day date
- That date is your batch payment date
If no Pay Day date is shown but your status says Approved, your batch has not yet been assigned — check back in a few days.
What If My Batch Payment Date Has Passed and I Got Nothing?
If your Pay Day has passed and you did not receive payment:
Step 1: Confirm your banking details are correct at srd.sassa.gov.za — a wrong account number is the most common cause of missed payments
Step 2: Check your bank account directly — sometimes funds arrive without an SMS
Step 3: If details are correct and funds have not arrived after 3 working days, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 (free call)
Step 4: WhatsApp SASSA on 082 046 8553 and send your ID number with a payment query

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change which batch I am in?
No. SASSA assigns batches automatically. You cannot request to be moved to the first batch or a different payment date. Your Pay Day is assigned based on SASSA’s internal processing schedule.
Is first batch better than second batch?
No. Both batches pay the full R370 grant. The only difference is the date — first batch applicants receive payment a few days earlier. If you are in the second batch, your money is simply scheduled for a later date within the same month.
Why are some people paid earlier than others?
SASSA processes millions of applications monthly and splits payments across several days to prevent banking system overload. The split is based on processing order and internal scheduling — it is not related to priority, application quality, or any other factor.
What is a Pay Day on SASSA?
Your Pay Day is your personal SRD payment date — the specific day SASSA has scheduled your batch payment. It appears at srd.sassa.gov.za under your Approved status. If your Pay Day has passed and you have not received payment, check your banking details immediately.
