If your SASSA SRD status shows Approved but you have not received payment, there are several possible reasons — most of which are straightforward to fix. This guide explains each cause and tells you exactly what to do.
Approved means your grant is confirmed for this month. Payment delays are common and do not mean your approval has been reversed.
What Does SASSA Approved Status Mean?
Approved means SASSA has verified your application and confirmed your R370 SRD grant for the current month. Payment will follow on your assigned Pay Day — the date SASSA has scheduled your specific payment.
Your Pay Day is visible at srd.sassa.gov.za when you log in with your ID number and registered phone number. Not everyone with Approved status is paid on the same day — SASSA releases payments in batches across multiple dates.
Reasons You Are Approved But Have Not Been Paid
Your Payment Date Has Not Arrived Yet
The most common reason for not receiving payment is simply that your Pay Day has not happened yet. SASSA pays different applicants on different dates within the month, typically from the 23rd to the 30th.
Check your exact Pay Day at srd.sassa.gov.za before assuming something is wrong.
Banking Details Have Not Been Fully Verified
Your status can show Approved before your banking details have completed verification. If your account is new or was recently changed, SASSA may still be confirming it. Payment will release once the banking check clears.
If your status shows Bank Details Pending alongside Approved, this is the cause — wait 3–5 business days or check your details at the portal.
Incorrect Banking Details on File
If your banking details contain an error — wrong account number, account closed, or the account name does not match your ID — the payment will fail even with Approved status. The funds are sent but bounce back to SASSA.
Check your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za and update them if anything is incorrect. See the change banking details guide for step-by-step instructions.
Payment Sent to Old Account
If you changed your banking details recently and the update was not processed before payment ran, your money may have been sent to your previous account.
Contact your old bank to check if a deposit was made, then update your details at srd.sassa.gov.za for future payments.
Postbank Card Issue
If your payment method is a Postbank card and the card is expired, damaged, lost, or linked to the wrong account, payment may fail. Visit any Postbank branch with your ID to resolve card issues.
ℹ️ Note: SASSA is currently migrating from the old Gold Card to a new Postbank Black Card. If you have not yet received your Black Card, visit any Postbank branch — the swap is free and takes about 15 minutes.
How to Check Your SASSA Payment Date
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
- Enter your 13-digit ID number and registered phone number
- Request and enter the OTP sent to your phone
- Under your Approved status, you will see your Pay Day date
- Note: if the Pay Day date has not yet passed, simply wait until that date
SASSA also sends an SMS to your registered phone number when your payment is processed. If you did not receive an SMS, check whether your registered number is still active and correct.
What to Do If Payment Date Has Passed With No Payment
If your Pay Day date has passed and you still have not received payment, follow these steps:
Step 1: Confirm your banking details are correct at srd.sassa.gov.za — wrong details are the most common cause
Step 2: Check your bank account directly — sometimes funds arrive without an SMS notification
Step 3: If details are correct and funds have not arrived, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 (free call, available Monday–Friday)
Step 4: WhatsApp SASSA on 082 046 8553 — send your ID number and ask about your payment status
Step 5: Visit your nearest SASSA office with your SA ID and bank account proof (a stamped bank statement or screen showing your account details)
Approved With Pay Date But No SMS
SASSA sends payment SMS notifications as a courtesy, not a guarantee. SMS delays and non-delivery are common due to:
- High volume of notifications sent simultaneously
- Your phone being off or in a no-signal area
- Your SIM being inactive
If you did not receive an SMS, check your bank account directly — your money may already be there. Do not wait for an SMS before checking your account.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long after being approved does payment arrive?
Payment arrives on your assigned Pay Day, which is shown at srd.sassa.gov.za under your Approved status. SRD payments are typically distributed between the 23rd and 30th of the month. There is no fixed number of days — check your specific Pay Day date.
What if my payment went to the wrong account?
If SASSA sent payment to an incorrect account, the funds will bounce back to SASSA within 3–10 business days. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm the return and update your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za for the next payment cycle.
Can I change my banking details after being approved?
Yes. You can update your banking details at any time at srd.sassa.gov.za. However, if your current month’s payment has already been processed, the change will only take effect from the following month. See the change banking details guide.
What if I missed my payment date?
Your SASSA grant balance does not expire. If you did not collect or receive your payment on your Pay Day, the funds remain available. For bank account payments, the money stays in your account. For Postbank card holders, funds remain on the card until collected.
Why do some people get paid before others?
SASSA processes SRD payments in batches. The batch you are assigned to depends on several factors including when your application was submitted and your verification status. You cannot choose or change your batch — each person’s Pay Day is assigned automatically.
