When Does SASSA Pay the SRD R370 Grant?

The SRD R370 is different from other SASSA grants — it is not paid on a single date. SASSA processes SRD payments in batches across multiple days due to the high volume of over 13 million applicants.

Why Does SASSA Pay Different Grants on Different Days?

SASSA processes over 18 million grant payments per month across South Africa. Paying every grant on the same day would overwhelm the banking system — and cause chaos at retail pay points where people collect in person.

The payment order is intentional:

1. Older Persons first — pensioners are the most vulnerable recipients. SASSA prioritises them.
2. Disability second — also high-priority due to recipient vulnerability
3. Children’s grants third — caregivers can collect the next day
4. SRD last — the largest volume grant, spread across multiple batch days

This order has been SASSA’s standard practice for many years.

Does SASSA Pay on Weekends?

No. SASSA never pays on Saturdays or Sundays. If a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend:

• SASSA moves the payment to the last business day before the weekend
• Example: if the 2nd is a Sunday, payment is made on Friday the 1st

Does SASSA pay on public holidays?

No. SASSA also does not pay on public holidays. Payment moves to the last business day before the holiday. Workers’ Day (1 May) caused the May 2026 payment cycle to start on 5 May rather than 1 May.
