SASSA Payment Dates 2026 – Full Year Schedule for All Grants

Updated April 2026
By Busi Mdluli

SASSA pays approximately 18 million South Africans their social grants each month. Payments follow a staggered 3-day schedule across the first 8 days of each month — except the SRD R370, which is paid individually at the end of the month.

April 2026 marks the start of the new 2026/27 financial year, with confirmed grant increases for most grant types.

Why April dates are later than usual: Easter falls in April 2026. Good Friday (3 April) and Family Day (6 April) are public holidays, which push Disability and Children’s grant dates back. This is normal and expected.

SRD R370 note: SRD is not paid on a calendar date like other grants. Your individual payment date is assigned by SASSA after monthly verification. Check your date at srd.sassa.gov.za.

How the SASSA Payment Schedule Works

The 3-Day Staggered Payment System

SASSA deliberately staggers payments across 3 consecutive working days. This prevents overcrowding at ATMs, Postbank branches, and retail pay points.

  • Day 1: Older Persons Grant + War Veterans Grant
  • Day 2: Disability Grant + Care Dependency Grant
  • Day 3: Child Support Grant + Foster Child Grant + Grant-in-Aid

Each grant type is always paid on the same day-number every month. So if you receive the Disability Grant, you always get paid on Day 2 — the specific calendar date changes, but it is always the second working day of the payment cycle.

Why Payments Are Never Made on the 1st of the Month

SASSA policy is to avoid the 1st of the month because bank systems need time to complete processing from the previous month. Payments begin on the first available working day that is not the 1st — which is typically the 2nd or 3rd of the month.

What Happens on Public Holidays and Weekends

Rule: SASSA pays on the last working day BEFORE the holiday — not after.

This means you get paid early, not late, when a payment date falls on or near a public holiday. For example, if the 2nd of a month is a public holiday, Older Persons grants would be paid on the 1st of that month as an exception.

2026 public holidays that affect payment dates:

  • Good Friday — 3 April 2026 (shifts April Disability/Children’s dates)
  • Family Day — 6 April 2026 (further shift for April)
  • Workers’ Day — 1 May 2026 (shifts May Older Persons date to 5 May)

What Time Does SASSA Pay?

This is one of the most searched SASSA questions — and almost nobody answers it clearly.

Funds are processed overnight and are typically available from approximately 8–9am on your payment date.

  • Postbank ATMs and branches: funds available from the time the branch opens on payment day
  • Retail pay points (Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer): available from store opening on payment day
  • Direct bank account deposits: available from around 8am, though some banks take until midday to reflect the deposit
  • If nothing shows by midday: wait until the next morning before calling SASSA — overnight batch processing sometimes runs late

SASSA SRD R370 Payment Dates 2026

The SRD grant works differently from every other SASSA grant. Understanding this difference saves a lot of confusion.

Why SRD Has No Fixed Calendar Date

Every other grant pays on a set schedule (Day 1, 2, or 3 of the payment cycle). The SRD grant is different because it requires individual monthly verification.

Before releasing your SRD payment each month, SASSA checks your details against:

  • Department of Home Affairs (ID verification)
  • SARS (income verification)
  • UIF (unemployment fund records)
  • Your registered bank or payment details

Only once this verification clears does SASSA assign your payment date. This is why two people with SRD grants can have different payment dates in the same month.

When Are SRD Payments Released Each Month?

SRD payments are typically released in the last 10–12 days of the month, after the monthly verification batch runs.

April 2026 SRD payment windows: 23–24 April and 29–30 April 2026.

Your personal date falls within one of these windows depending on when your verification completed.

How to Check Your Personal SRD Payment Date

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za (see our portal guide for step-by-step help)
  2. Click “Check Status”
  3. Enter your 13-digit South African ID number
  4. Enter your registered cell phone number
  5. Your status will display — if approved, the “Pay Day” field shows your assigned payment date

SRD Approved But Not Paid — What to Do

If approved but not paid: confirm your Pay Day date has passed, wait 2–3 working days, and check your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za. If still unpaid, call 0800 60 10 11. For a full troubleshooting guide see SASSA SRD Status Check.

Has the SRD R370 Amount Changed?

No. The SRD grant remains R370 per month in the 2026/27 financial year. No increase was announced in the 2026 Budget.

For context: the SRD grant was last increased from R350 to R370 in April 2024.

Postbank Gold Card Swap 2026 — Urgent Action Required

⚠️ Deadline: 31 December 2026. Approximately 600,000 SASSA beneficiaries are still using the old SASSA Gold Card. If you do not swap before the deadline, your card will be deactivated and you will not be able to access your grant money until you swap.

What Is the Gold-to-Black Card Swap?

Postbank is replacing all old SASSA Gold Cards with new Postbank Black Cards (Mastercard-enabled). The Black Card:

  • Works at far more ATMs nationwide (any Mastercard ATM)
  • Supports more retail pay points
  • Has improved security features
  • Supports contactless payments

Who Needs to Swap?

If you are still using the old yellow/gold SASSA card, you need to swap. If you already have a Postbank Black Card, no action is needed.

Not sure which card you have? The old Gold Card is yellow with “SASSA” printed on the front. The new Black Card is dark-coloured with the Postbank and Mastercard logos.

How to Swap — Step by Step

  1. Take your valid South African ID (green barcoded ID book or smart ID card) to any Postbank branch
  2. Tell the teller you want to swap your SASSA Gold Card for the new Black Card
  3. The swap is completely free — SASSA and Postbank do not charge for this
  4. You do not need to bring your old gold card
  5. Your new Black Card will be issued immediately or posted to you within a few days

Swap Locations

  • Any Postbank branch nationwide
  • Selected SASSA offices — call 0800 60 10 11 to confirm your nearest location offers swaps

What to Do If Your SASSA Payment Is Late

Step 1 — Wait 2–3 Working Days First

Processing delays are common, especially around public holidays and at the start of a new month. Before calling SASSA, give it 2–3 full working days after your scheduled payment date.

Step 2 — Check Your Banking or Card Details

A wrong bank account number, expired card, or account that has been closed or frozen is the most common reason for non-payment. Verify your details:

  • SRD: check and update at srd.sassa.gov.za
  • Other grants: contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest office

Does Uncollected SASSA Money Expire?

No — your grant money does not expire and is not cancelled if you do not collect on your payment date.

Your balance stays on your card or in your bank account indefinitely. There is no deadline to collect, and there is no penalty for collecting late. Whether you collect on payment day or two weeks later, the full amount will be there.

One exception: if your Postbank account has been completely inactive for more than 6 months, contact Postbank to reactivate the account. Your balance is still held — it has not been forfeited.

Why is my SASSA payment date different from my neighbour’s?

For Older Persons, Disability, and Children’s grants, everyone on the same grant type gets paid on the same calendar date. For the SRD R370 grant, dates are assigned individually — two people on SRD can have different payment dates in the same month depending on their verification outcome.

What happens if a SASSA payment date falls on a public holiday?

SASSA pays on the last working day before the public holiday — not after. So you receive payment early, not late. For example, if your payment date falls on Good Friday, you would receive it on Thursday.

Can I collect my SASSA grant after the payment date?

Yes. There is no deadline to collect your grant. Your money stays on your card or account indefinitely. You will not lose it by collecting late.

Does uncollected SASSA money expire?

No. Your grant balance does not expire or get cancelled if you do not collect on your payment date. The only exception is if your Postbank account has been completely inactive for more than 6 months — in that case, contact Postbank to reactivate the account. Your money is still there.

Why is my SASSA payment late?

Common reasons: bank processing delay (wait 2–3 working days), incorrect banking details on file, bank account closed or frozen, or your grant status changed this month. Check at srd.sassa.gov.za or call 0800 60 10 11.

Has the SASSA grant amount increased in 2026?

Yes — from April 2026: Older Persons Grant increased to R2,400 (+R80), Disability Grant to R2,400 (+R80), Child Support Grant to R580 (+R20). The SRD R370 amount is unchanged at R370.

What is the deadline for swapping the Postbank Gold Card?

31 December 2026. Approximately 600,000 beneficiaries still need to swap. Visit any Postbank branch with your SA ID — the swap is free. Your grant money is not affected if you swap before the deadline.

Can I get my SASSA grant at Shoprite or Pick n Pay?

Yes. You can withdraw cash at Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Usave using your SASSA Postbank card and PIN. There is no extra charge for retail cash withdrawals.

What is the SASSA WhatsApp number?

082 046 8553. Send “Hi” to start the automated service and follow the menu prompts to check payment dates, grant status, or contact information.

How do I report a missing SASSA payment?

Call 0800 60 10 11 (toll-free), WhatsApp 082 046 8553, email Grantsenquiries [at] sassa.gov.za, or visit your nearest SASSA office. Bring your SA ID and SASSA card. SASSA can investigate missing payments and arrange re-payment within the same month in some cases.

Are SASSA payment dates the same every month?

Broadly yes — payments always follow the Day 1 / Day 2 / Day 3 pattern and are paid within the first 8 days of each month. The exact calendar dates shift slightly each month to account for weekends and public holidays. The SRD grant always pays in the last 10–12 days of the month.
